HILO — After more than 770 absentee voters cast mail-in ballots too late to be counted in the primary election, officials have tucked a bright orange reminder in the ballot packages being mailed for the general election.

“We are enclosing an insert in all of the absentee ballots that are being mailed out,” county Elections Division Administrator Pat Nakamoto said Thursday.

The insert warns voters from within the state to mail their absentee ballots no later than Saturday, Nov. 5, if they want them to arrive in time for Election Day on Nov. 8. If they are mailing their ballot from outside of the state of Hawaii, they should contact the post office for their delivery information, Nakamoto said.

Any registered voter may request a mail ballot or cast their vote at an early walk-in location within their county. Nov. 1 is the last day to request a mail ballot for the general election from the Clerk’s Office.

Early voting starts Tuesday at four Hawaii County locations. Early voting continues through Nov. 5 for most locations.

For the first time, would-be voters can also register to vote at the early voting sites.

The Aupuni Center Conference Room in Hilo and the West Hawaii Civic Center Community Room (Building G) in Kailua-Kona are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Waimea Community Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The Pahala Community Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, but closed from noon to 1 p.m.
